Toyota has issued a recall on vehicles in the United States following a series of fatal car crashes, thereby making a dramatic about turn on 2009 claims that there is no mechanical problems regarding the accelarotor.

Toyota said its own investigation in recent months had found that some accelerator pedals on those models might stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to idling (full story here)

This incident is currently particular to the US, but one has to wonder about Toyota's ethics - especially considering the Fortuner recall debacle in SA (Fortuners had to be recalled following numerous incidents where the cars flipped over thanks to badly chosen tires)
